About this template

Service of a will and voluntary acceptance of a will – 15 customer files in Word, PDF, and Excel. For beneficiaries, heirs, and estate representatives who need to document the delivery of a certified copy of a will, actual receipt, any explicit acceptance, and a separate claim for a compulsory portion (laglott) according to Swedish law.

Important distinction: an acknowledgment of receipt does not mean that the heir accepts the will. Anyone considering a challenge or requesting a compulsory portion should not use the acceptance document without understanding the consequences. The package does not replace individual advice in a disputed estate.

01. Contents of the package

7 DOCX + 7 corresponding searchable PDF + 1 XLSX = 15 files. Five Swedish document templates, one Swedish user guide, one English User Guide, and an Excel workbook with nine tabs. Seven text documents are delivered in two formats; they are not fourteen different templates.

Language: Swedish documents; English guide for understanding the Swedish templates. PDF: searchable and printable, not an automatically fillable form. Version: 1.0, October 21, 2026.

02. What the files contain

Document templates: service letters, neutral acknowledgment of receipt, separate voluntary acceptance, request for adjustment for a compulsory portion, and audit logs. Guides: Swedish instructions and English explanation. Excel: register for persons, mailings, receipts, positions taken, claims, and supporting documentation; administrative summaries.

Excel tools with nine tabs

Overview, Persons, Mailings, Receipts, Stances, Compulsory portion claims, Supporting docs, Checkpoints, and Read me. The overview counts registered events and status updates. A registration does not mean that valid service, timely adjustment, or a final will has been established. No legal deadlines are calculated automatically, and no notifications are sent from Excel.

How to use the template package

  1. Identify the current will, codicils, and the correct heirs and beneficiaries.
  2. Check that the will is delivered as a certified copy to the correct person when service is required.
  3. Fill out the service letter and document actual receipt separately.
  4. Do not use the acceptance document as a receipt. It is only for the heir who voluntarily wishes to accept the will after understanding the consequences.
  5. Handle any potential claim for a compulsory portion separately and verify the recipient, form, and deadline.
  6. Archive certified copies, evidence, stances taken, and relevant dates in a secure manner.

Legal framework – what applies?

According to the Swedish Inheritance Code (Ärvdabalk) Chapter 14, Section 4, a written will must normally be served to the heir by delivering a certified copy, unless the heir has already accepted the will. An heir who wishes to challenge the will according to Chapter 13 must, as a general rule, bring an action within six months after proper service, according to Chapter 14, Section 5. A forced heir's request for adjustment for a compulsory portion is regulated separately in Chapter 7, Section 3. Deadlines and eligibility must be checked in each individual case.

Limitations: The packages do not determine who is an heir, the validity of the will, the size of the compulsory portion, or whether a certain service procedure is sufficient as proof. Minors, international ties, conflicting wills, power of attorney disputes, or unclear deadlines require special assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Is the acknowledgment of receipt the same as an acceptance?

No. It only confirms that an identified certified copy of the will has actually been received. Acceptance is a separate and legally significant stance.

Must the will be served with a certified copy?

When serving a written will, the main rule is the delivery of a certified copy to the heir. Exceptions and special inheritance circumstances must be assessed separately.

Can a forced heir accept the will and at the same time claim a compulsory portion?

Accepting a will can have serious legal consequences. Anyone wishing to request adjustment for a compulsory portion should not sign the template's full acceptance without an individual assessment. The separate compulsory portion template is available for such a claim.

Does Excel calculate the challenge deadline or the compulsory portion deadline?

No. Excel records administrative events and statuses. Legal deadlines, the correct recipient, and the validity of service must be checked outside the workbook.

Is an English version of the legal documents included?

No. The English user guide explains the Swedish documents, but the templates relate to Swedish law and are written in Swedish.

Can the PDF files be filled out digitally?

The PDF files are searchable reading and print versions. Customization is normally done in the Word files before printing and finalization.
