Employment Contract Template Package 2026 – complete package for Swedish employers
This is a complete and practical template package for companies and organizations that need to draw up clear employment contracts in accordance with Swedish law. The package contains separate templates for the most common forms of employment, a specific appendix for hourly wages and varying working hours, a document for changes to employment terms, and an employer guide with a checklist.
The templates are designed to be easy to fill out while remaining sufficiently detailed to cover the written information that an employer is normally required to provide under the Employment Protection Act (LAS). All documents are delivered in both editable Word format and PDF.
Included in the package
- Employment contract – permanent employment
- Employment contract – probationary employment
- Employment contract – special fixed-term employment (SÄVA)
- Employment contract – substitute/temporary employment
- Appendix – hourly wage and varying working hours
- Change of employment terms according to Section 6 e of the Employment Protection Act
- Employer guide and checklist 2026
In total, the package includes 7 separate documents and approximately 35 professionally designed A4 pages.
Permanent employment
The template for permanent employment is adapted for the form of employment that constitutes the main rule under the Employment Protection Act. It contains clear fields for, among other things, employer and employee details, start date, scope of employment, workplace, position, duties, salary, other benefits, working hours, schedule, overtime and additional time, vacation, sick pay, training, occupational pension, insurance, collective agreements, and notice period.
Probationary employment
The probationary employment template includes specific fields for the probationary period and the terms of the probation. It is designed with the understanding that, as a general rule, probationary employment may last for a maximum of six months and that the employer must follow specific rules regarding notification if the probationary employment is to be terminated prematurely or concluded without transitioning into permanent employment.
Special fixed-term employment – SÄVA
The template for special fixed-term employment explicitly states that the employment is a SÄVA and has specific fields for start date, end date, and verification of previous fixed-term employment. This is important because, for SÄVA, the employer must provide information about the form of employment when the employment is entered into.
The template and employer guide also include reminders about the conversion rules in the Employment Protection Act and that the employer should keep ongoing track of previous SÄVA periods.
Substitute/temporary employment
The substitute employment template includes specific fields to state who or what actual need for substitution the employment relates to. This could, for example, involve replacing an employee who is on parental or sick leave, or temporarily staffing a vacant position during a recruitment process. The template helps the employer document the basis for the substitution clearly.
Hourly wage and varying working hours
A common misconception is that "hourly employment" in itself is a separate form of employment. The package avoids this legal issue by treating hourly wages as a form of salary and a matter of working hours, not as a separate form of employment. The appendix is used in conjunction with a correct primary contract – for example, permanent employment, SÄVA, or substitute employment.
The appendix contains fields for hourly wage, guaranteed working hours, schedule type, minimum notice for work shifts, inconvenient working hours (OB), overtime, additional time, vacation, and rules for changed or canceled shifts.
Change of employment terms
When significant terms of employment change, the employer must in many cases document the change in writing. The package therefore includes a separate change notice where previous and new terms can be documented, along with the date the change takes effect and the reason for the change.
Employer guide with LAS checklist
The accompanying guide helps the employer choose the right document and check that important information is not missed. It covers, among other things:
- which template fits each form of employment
- the central information points in Section 6 c of the Employment Protection Act
- deadlines for written information
- full-time as a starting point unless otherwise agreed
- conversion rules for SÄVA and substitute employment
- probationary employment and the two-week notification from the employer
- notification when fixed-term employment ends
- other employment and secondary occupations
- vacation and vacation pay
- working hours and sick pay
- collective agreements and union obligations
Designed based on current Swedish labor law
The legal status has been verified on September 27, 2026. The package has been designed based on, among other things, the Employment Protection Act (1982:80), the Annual Leave Act (1977:480), the Working Hours Act (1982:673), the Sick Pay Act (1991:1047), the Co-Determination in the Workplace Act (1976:580), and the Discrimination Act (2008:567).
The templates take into account that collective agreements may contain other or supplementary rules. Therefore, there are clear fields for applicable collective agreements, and several clauses are written so that they can be adapted to the specific business.
What information is included in the employment contracts?
The four main contracts contain structured sections for the parties, form of employment, start date, duration of employment, scope of employment, job title, workplace, duties, salary, salary payment, variable compensation, other benefits, expense reimbursement, regular working hours, schedule, overtime/additional time, on-call/standby, vacation, sick pay, training, employer contributions, occupational pension, insurance, collective agreements, confidentiality, loyalty, secondary occupation, personal data, internal rules, termination of employment, and changes to employment terms.
Who is the package for?
The template package is particularly useful for limited companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, associations, and other private employers who want a structured basis for new hires. It is also suitable for companies that have previously used simple employment certificates but want better documentation of working hours, benefits, and other terms.
Word and PDF included
The Word files are fully editable so that the company's own terms, logo, collective agreements, and internal rules can be added. The PDF files serve as a reference, printing basis, and example of the final layout. All documents have clear fill-in fields and separate signature pages.
Important to know
The documents are professional templates and should always be adapted to the individual employer, the specific position, and any applicable collective agreement. They do not replace individual legal advice for situations such as complicated fixed-term employment, disputes, executive positions, or other situations where specific rules may apply.
