How to Conduct a Supplier Audit
- Verify the right to audit: refer to a contract clause, documented permission, or other factual support before visiting or requesting confidential information.
- Plan the audit: specify objectives, criteria, auditors, audit time, sampling method, and the processes covered.
- Review permitted evidence: note the document ID, sample, date, limitations of the evidence, and the supplier's comments.
- Report nonconformities: specify the exact requirement that was not met, objective evidence, and any root cause analysis.
- Follow up on actions: specify responsibility, deadline, verification method, and results. Internal closure does not automatically imply contractual approval.
- Make separate supplier decisions: refer business decisions or contractual actions to the appropriate decision-making function.
ISO 19011:2026 and Methodical Quality
ISO 19011:2026 was published in May 2026 and provides guidance on auditing management systems, including audits of external suppliers (second-party audits). The templates were developed independently and are not a copy of the licensed text of the standard. ISO 19011 does not in itself provide a statutory right to audit or ISO certification.
Legal and Practical Limitations
Important: A supplier audit requires the appropriate support in each respective relationship. External facility visits, access to documents, photography, processing of personal data, confidentiality, and sharing of evidence may be governed by agreements, GDPR, and special regulations. An internal nonconformity classification does not automatically grant the right to penalties, termination, or other contractual remedies. Legal and technical special requirements must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. No independent lawyer or certification auditor has reviewed or approved these templates.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between supplier assessment and supplier audit?
A supplier assessment often combines delivery performance, risks, and documented information. An audit tests stated criteria with documented sampling, audit evidence, audit observations, and traceable conclusions.
Does the supplier have to give me access?
Not just because you use a template or refer to ISO 19011. Check the relevant agreement, any permissions, and legal support.
Can this be used for ISO 9001?
Yes, as administrative support for supplier control, but it does not replace the licensed standard, expert audit, or certification.
Does the package include an automatic audit score?
Excel summarizes registered controls, evidence, nonconformities, and actions. It does not automatically determine ISO compliance, supplier approval, or sanctions.
Are the documents in English?
The five work templates are in Swedish. A separate English User Guide is included. It is not a complete English-language document package.
How are the files delivered?
Digitally as a ZIP file with 15 files once the product has been activated and the download linked to the product variant.
