About this template

Fire Door Control & Fire Compartment Log is a digital document package in Word, PDF and Excel for Swedish property owners, housing cooperatives, employers and fire safety managers. Document fire doors, door closers, visual fire door inspections, non-conformities, technical orders and post-inspections in a continuous workflow.

The package helps distinguish visual inspection from fire-technical testing. A completed template is not a certificate of fire resistance or gas tightness, an approval of a fire compartment boundary, or a substitute for expert inspection. The current building, original fire safety documentation, subsequent changes and relevant regulations must always be considered.

01. Package Contents

15 customer files in a ZIP: five Swedish work forms, one Swedish user guide and one English User Guide. All seven documents are provided as editable Word files (.docx) and searchable PDF files. An Excel workbook (.xlsx) with nine tabs is also included. Total: 7 DOCX + 7 PDF + 1 XLSX. The PDF files are searchable and printable, not interactive web forms.

02. What the Files Contain

Fire door and door closer inventory, visual fire door inspection, non-conformity management with interim protection, contractor order for technical inspection, post-inspection and decision log. Excel registers for properties, inspections, defects, actions, technical reports, responsibilities and decisions. The formulas flag missing information but do not automatically provide fire-technical or legal approval.

Excel – Fire Door Register with Nine Tabs

The workbook contains Overview, Fire Doors, Visual Inspection, Non-conformities, Actions, Technical Inspection, Post-Inspection, Responsibilities and Read Me. Each operational register tab has 100 prepared data rows without fictitious customer information. The overview shows registered doors, open non-conformities, documented inspections, urgent deficiencies without protection, missing technical documentation and follow-up cases. Formulas can provide a control signal for, for example, a propped-open fire door lacking a non-conformity ID, a negative action cost, an incomplete technical report or a reopening without a decision.

NOTE: Excel cannot measure fire resistance, test the door's actual fire gas tightness or determine whether a door closer is legally required. There are exceptions and building-dependent application conditions. The person using the files must document the basis for decisions and engage competent assistance when necessary.

How to Use the Package in Systematic Fire Safety Work

  1. Inventory: give each door its own ID, specify the fire compartment boundary, location, documents and any verified fire-technical classification.
  2. Perform a visual fire door inspection: document propping open, obstructions, visible damage, closing or marking defects from a safe location.
  3. Escalate risk: for serious deficiencies, the responsible person must immediately assess actual protective measures. An Excel flag is not sufficient.
  4. Order expert intervention: specify product and building documentation, actual deficiency, requirement reference, contractor and report requirements.
  5. Post-inspection: review the report, register remaining deficiencies and document a separate decision on continued use.

Swedish Law and Technical Limitations

LSO – Responsibility for Preventive Fire Safety

Chapter 2, Section 2 of the Swedish Accident Protection Act (2003:778) states that owners or rights holders of buildings shall take reasonable measures to prevent fire and limit damage. The internal division of operation, inspection and documentation must be clear. A service agreement does not automatically waive every statutory responsibility.

Fire Doors, Door Closers and Fire Compartments

Boverket's guidance for fire-separating constructions outlines, among other things, requirements for door closers and certain exceptions according to BFS 2024:7, with changes in BFS 2025:10. Boverket describes how doors with magnetic hold-open devices that must close in the event of a fire must function within the intended system. A door held open with a wedge or whose closer has been disconnected may impair the separation. For fire and smoke classification, see Boverket's guidance on fire-technical classifications.

Important limitation: New building regulations cannot automatically be applied retroactively to every older, unaltered door. What applies must be assessed with regard to the building's construction, changes, design documents, transitional provisions and actual use. The package does not reproduce protected standard texts or technical test methods.

Workplace Escape Routes

According to AFS 2023:12, Chapter 4, Sections 6–8, escape routes and doors leading to them must be usable without obstruction and possible to open. Control of fire separation must therefore be coordinated with accessible and functional evacuation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fire Door Inspection

How often should a fire door be inspected?

There is no single general monthly frequency that automatically applies to all doors. Choose the interval based on risk, use, the property's fire safety documentation, manufacturer instructions and any special requirements.

Is it a defect if a fire door lacks a door closer?

Not necessarily. Requirements and exceptions vary; for example, Boverket describes special exceptions. Check applicable documents and actual regulations before stating a deficiency.

Can a fire door be wedged open?

If the door is required to maintain its fire-separating function, a wedge may impair its function. Escalate the risk and assess whether an approved alarm-controlled hold-open device is appropriate.

Can a board of directors assign an EI classification to a fire door?

No. A visual inspection does not demonstrate fire resistance or gas tightness. Technical classification and installation must be verified against documentation and, when required, by an expert.

Is a completed post-inspection report a fire certificate?

No. The report states what has been documented. A technical certificate must be based on relevant actual testing and appropriate competence.

What does Excel do if the door has an urgent defect?

The register can flag that an urgent non-conformity lacks a specified protective measure. A real risk must be addressed immediately, regardless of what a cell shows.

Are English work forms included?

The five work forms are in Swedish. An English user guide is included to help understand the Swedish documents.
