How to use the FAT and SAT templates
- Identify the relevant equipment, requirements specification, and contract version.
- Establish measurable acceptance criteria before testing.
- Perform FAT and document the actual measured value, tester, and any deviations.
- Perform SAT on site, checking the current installation, environment, and open FAT items.
- Record deviations, corrections, retesting, and remaining outstanding items in Excel.
- Document the agreed acceptance procedure and authorized signatures separately from the technical test status.
Technical and contractual limitations
These are independently developed administrative templates, not a copy of a licensed standard and not a technical certification. IEC 62381:2024 covers FAT, SAT, and SIT for automation systems in the process industry. Requirements, safety testing, and acceptance must be adapted to the specific project's contract, equipment, and regulations. A completed or signed test protocol does not automatically imply CE compliance, permission to commission, or transfer of contractual risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between FAT and SAT?
FAT normally takes place at the supplier's facility before delivery or installation. SAT is performed on site in the installed environment. The exact arrangement is governed by the equipment, contract, and test plan.
Can I use the templates for machines and automation systems?
Yes, as administrative documentation support once the technically responsible parties have established the test criteria. Special requirements for machine safety, functional safety, CE, and regulations must be checked separately.
Does Excel calculate passed and failed tests?
Yes. The Dashboard summarizes registered test IDs and status, as well as open deviations and overdue internal actions. The calculations do not constitute a legal acceptance assessment.
Does the certificate replace a purchase agreement?
No. The legal effect of acceptance and any handover depends on the terms of the agreement and the actual approval of the authorized party.
Are all the templates in English?
No. Five working templates are in Swedish. A separate English user guide is included as a reference.
