Visitation schedule in Excel with nine tabs
Overview counts registered cases, contract drafts, submitted documents, and actual verified approvals. Child and agreement records references and separates drafts from signed and authority-approved agreements. Basic schedule contains weeks, dates, times, and locations. Holidays and weekends provides separate planning periods. Pick-up documents actual handovers. Contact is used for calls and other contact. Deviations collects factual change notations. Approval provides a checklist with the decision's reference and date. Read me contains guidance and official authority sources.
Excel cannot approve, interpret, or enforce a visitation agreement. The actual approval status may only be marked once there is a verified decision. The workbook is delivered with empty fields and without fictitious personal data or authority decisions.
How to use the document package
- Check any existing judgments or approved agreements, the child's residence, and which adults are involved.
- Review the child's best interests, daily life, and potential risks. Give the child the opportunity to be heard, considering their age and maturity.
- Fill in the contract draft with clear times, locations, responsibilities, and any specific terms.
- Specify even and odd weeks or another unambiguous interval. Add a date-controlled holiday schedule.
- Check pick-up, drop-off, and any contact via phone, video, or other channels.
- Let both parents read and, upon reaching consensus, sign the draft before it is submitted for relevant review.
- Contact the municipality's family law department for questions about the social welfare committee's approval. Save and refer only to an actual decision.
Legal limitations and the best interests of the child
Chapter 6, Sections 2 a and 15–15 a of the Children and Parents Code regulate the best interests of the child and visitation. The agreement must be in writing and approved by the social welfare committee to obtain the legal status specified in Chapter 6, Section 15 a. An agreement must be clear enough to be reviewed. The Swedish Agency for Family Law and Parental Support (MFoF) recommends specifying visitation times, locations, and pick-up and drop-off procedures. The possibility of other contact may also be relevant. Financial distribution of travel costs is a separate issue according to Chapter 6, Section 15 b.
This template does not replace a court process, custody or residence agreements, social welfare committee review, professional risk assessment, or support from the family law department. In cases of violence, threats, or other safety risks, individual expert assistance is required. No external lawyer review or government certification is claimed.

Common questions about visitation agreements
Is a private visitation schedule legally binding?
Not automatically. A visitation agreement under the Children and Parents Code must be in writing and approved by the social welfare committee to be valid as such.
Can you write the agreement yourself?
Yes, parents can create their own written draft, but the competent social welfare committee must approve it for the intended legal effect. The municipality's family law department can assist.
What should be stated in the visitation schedule?
Exact days, start and end times, locations, who picks up or drops off, and how holidays or weekends relate to the basic schedule.
Can Excel automatically determine where the child should live?
No. Excel is an administrative register, not a legal decision-support tool for children or a substitute for individual authority review.
Are the main templates translated into English?
No. Five main templates are available in Swedish and a separate English User Guide is included.
