About this template
Treasurer's report and financial report for non-profit organizations. For treasurers and non-profit boards who need a clear internal report on income, expenses, budget variances, reconciliations, and proposed board decisions. Includes editable Word documents, searchable PDFs, and an Excel register. Important: the package is an administrative reporting aid, not accounting software, a statutory annual financial statement, annual report, or auditor's report.
01. Package contents
15 customer files in ZIP: five Swedish working documents, one Swedish user guide and one English User Guide, all in both editable DOCX (7) and corresponding searchable PDF (7), plus an Excel workbook (1 XLSX) with nine tabs. The PDF files are print versions and not interactive PDF forms.
02. What the files contain
Board report with source references, monthly reconciliation, budget variances, decision-making basis, report handover, two guides, and Excel for periods, income, expenses, budget, variances, decisions, and list of supporting documents. Control status is managed manually; amounts in the overview are summed only for items that the user has marked as reconciled.
When is the report package suitable?
Choose it when the treasurer needs to prepare an internal financial report ahead of a board meeting or recurring follow-up. It is particularly suitable when the board needs to understand what has been checked and what is still outstanding. For ongoing accounting, the correct accounting documentation is required, and, when the organization is subject to accounting requirements, the Accounting Act must be followed. For annual financial statements, a separate, purpose-specific package is required.

Excel tool: nine tabs
Overview, Report Periods, Income, Expenses, Budget, Variances, Decisions, Documentation, and Read Me. Six compilation formulas show reconciled income and expenses, difference/net, budgeted income and expenses, and budgeted net; two administrative counters show open variances and proposed decisions. Formulas have been tested with fictitious amounts, including 2,000 SEK in reconciled income minus 750 SEK in reconciled expenses, which gave 1,250 SEK. Fictitious test data is no longer in the customer file. The workbook does not perform automatic accounting, periodization, VAT verification, or legal checks.
How the organization works
- Establish the report period and retrieve actual accounting and bank information.
- Perform monthly reconciliation, mark only verified reconciled items, and note differences.
- Compare reconciled amounts with the budget for the same period and comparison principle.
- Write the treasurer's report and prepare separate decision proposals.
- Hand over the documents; distinguish receipt of delivery from review and board decisions.
- Follow up on decisions and control points and keep documentation securely.
Legal requirements and limitations of use
Accounting requirements for non-profit organizations depend on actual circumstances, including the value of assets, any commercial activities, or group status. See the Accounting Act (1999:1078), especially Chapter 2, Section 2 and Chapters 4–7 and the Swedish Tax Agency's information on non-profit organizations' accounting. An internally prepared report does not replace mandatory verifications, year-end closings, or annual reports. Handle personal data in the organization's financial material restrictively; see IMY's guidance.
Frequently asked questions
Is a treasurer's report the same as a year-end closing?
No. The treasurer's report is an internal status report to the board. If the organization must prepare a year-end closing or annual report, it must comply with the rules applicable to its reporting.
Can Excel replace the organization's accounting?
No. The Excel register sums entered amounts and manually marked control status. It does not replace a general ledger, verifications, or accounting systems where such requirements apply.
Is a reconciled Excel row automatically correct?
No. The status is selected manually by the user. Actual verification against documentation must be done outside the formula.
Does the report's decision proposal constitute a board decision?
No. Decisions must be made by the correct body according to the organization's bylaws and documented separately. The proposal is a preparatory document.
What does the English guide entail?
It explains the use of the Swedish documents in English and is not an English-language main template or adaptation to foreign law.
