About this template
Simplified K1 Annual Accounts for Non-profit Associations – Word, PDF, and Excel
Prepare your association's annual accounts with editable work templates, reconciliation attachments, documentation for board decisions, and an Excel workbook to record actual amounts. Simplified K1 Annual Accounts is a special form of financial reporting for certain smaller non-profit associations – it is not the same as a statutory annual report.
The package is intended for treasurers, boards, and accounting officers who need structure for the financial year's profit and loss, balance sheet, documentation, and decisions. You are responsible for verifying whether your association is permitted to use K1 and that the final figures are reconciled against the bookkeeping.

The Excel Tool – nine tabs
Overview · Revenue · Expenses · Assets · Liabilities · Simplified Accounts · Reconciliations · Decisions · Read Me. Record documentation, amounts, and status, track discrepancies, and use the summary as a work aid. Formulas for summations and checks are not equivalent to legal or audit approval. Empty registers do not contain actual business transactions.
How to do it – from bookkeeping to board decision
- Assess the reporting form. Start with the K1 assessment and check accounting obligations, economic activity, relevant revenue, bylaws, and BFN rules.
- Collect bookkeeping documentation. Reconcile the financial year, bank accounts, membership fees, grants, donations, accounts payable, and other items.
- Register in Excel. Enter only the association's actual amounts, assets, liabilities, comparison amounts, and reconciliations.
- Prepare the annual accounts. Use the Word template and check the presentation as well as valuation and accrual issues according to the applicable regulatory framework.
- Document the checks. Use the reconciliation attachments and the asset register and note any remaining discrepancies.
- Present to the board. Document decision dates, any reservations, adjustments, and responsible persons.
- Archive. Preserve vouchers, signed originals, and bookkeeping material according to current regulations.
Legal and practical limitations
A simplified K1 annual account is only suitable for an association that is actually permitted to apply BFNAR 2010:1. Associations subject to other accounting requirements should not use this as a replacement for annual accounts or annual reports according to K2/K3. For some associations, obligations arise from the scope of operations, assets, group relationships, or bylaws. Excel compiles recorded amounts; it does not determine whether the association meets legal requirements or whether the board has approved the accounts.
Supplementary documents and guides
To complement the financial documentation, there is an operational plan and annual report for associations, association minutes for annual meetings and the board, grant applications and project budgets, as well as a closing checklist and reconciliation register. Also, read the guide on annual reports for associations to understand the differences between different reporting forms.
Frequently asked questions about the association's annual accounts
Must all non-profit associations submit an annual report?
No. The requirements vary depending on operations and other conditions. Check whether your association is required to keep accounts and which reporting form applies.
Are simplified K1 annual accounts and an annual report the same thing?
No. Simplified K1 annual accounts are a specific simplified reporting form with its own set of rules and are not an annual report.
Can I use Excel without accounting software?
Excel is a supplementary document for compilation and control. The workbook does not replace the association's prescribed current bookkeeping, vouchers, or proper archiving.
Are English accounts included?
No. The five main templates are in Swedish. An English User Guide describes how to use the material.
Has the template package been reviewed by an external auditor?
No. The package is based on an editorial review of sources and does not have external audit or legal certification.
