About this template
Coordinated Functional Testing 2026/2027 – test plan, protocols, commissioning, and Excel registry
Do you need to document that functions work together across multiple installation systems in a construction project? This self-produced template package provides project managers, technical coordinators, clients, and contractors with a clear workflow for coordinated functional testing, test protocols, commissioning, error handling, and retesting.
The delivery contains 15 files: 7 Word (DOCX), 7 searchable PDF, and 1 Excel (XLSX) with nine tabs. Five Swedish master templates, a Swedish user guide, and an English User Guide are included. The files are editable work aids; they contain no fictitious, approved test results or pre-set technical configurations. Digital one-time purchase, no physical delivery.
The Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) prescribes professional, documented checks and testing/measurement for certain building functions. Examples include fire safety checks according to BFS 2024:7, Chapter 1, Sections 15 and 19 (with amendments including BFS 2025:10). The project’s contract, inspection plan, commencement notice, and applicable safety requirements determine which tests are necessary. This product is not a professional qualification or authority certificate, a standardized test method, or a legal stance on an individual object.

02. What the files contain – file by file
| File | Content and practical application | Format |
|---|---|---|
| 01. Test Plan – coordinated functional testing | Roles and mandates, prerequisites, test sequence, test ID, requirement sources, criteria, and schedule. | DOCX + PDF |
| 02. Test Protocol – systems and sequences | Test steps, start conditions, expected function, observed results, measurement data, deviations, and signatures. | DOCX + PDF |
| 03. Interfaces and cause–effect | Functions affecting multiple systems, signal exchange, operating cases, responsibility boundaries, and verified test sequences. | DOCX + PDF |
| 04. Deviation, action, and retest | Deviation ID, consequence, corrective action responsibility, retesting, evidence, and decision mandate. | DOCX + PDF |
| 05. Commissioning and handover check | Test operation, measurement, operating instructions, training, outstanding points, and receipt confirmation. | DOCX + PDF |
| 06. Swedish User Guide | Workflow, walkthrough of all files, Excel management, legal limitations, and sources. | DOCX + PDF |
| 07. English User Guide | Practical English guidance for Swedish master templates, terminology, and responsibility boundaries. | DOCX + PDF |
| 08. Excel registry with dashboard | Nine tabs: Overview, Tests, Systems, Interfaces, Deviations, Retesting, Documents, Decisions, and Read me. | XLSX |
The first seven documents are delivered in both Word and PDF: 7 DOCX + 7 PDF + 1 XLSX = 15 files. All work fields are to be filled in with actual project and testing data.
03. Excel registry with dashboard – nine tabs
Overview · Tests · Systems · Interfaces · Deviations · Retesting · Documents · Decisions · Read me.
The Excel sheet collects actual test IDs, system references, expected and observed results, evidence, and responsible parties. The dashboard displays the number of registered tests, completed tests, systems, interfaces, open deviations, retests, documents, and decisions.
Empty registries show 0. This simply means no test has been registered – not that the facility is approved or that there are no risks. Statuses are administrative, not automatic legal approvals.
How to use the template package – step by step
- Check the correct documentation: contract, administrative provisions (AF), current functional requirements, drawings, Planning and Building Act (PBL) inspection plan, and any conditions in the commencement notice.
- Establish responsibility and competence: appoint a test manager as well as system owners and inspectors with the right qualifications.
- Plan test sequences: define start conditions, operating cases, signals, measurement methods, safety measures, and every individual acceptance criterion with a requirement source.
- Document interfaces: fill in which installed systems communicate and what should happen in specified operating cases.
- Execute actual tests: record dates, measured values, and results with references to protocols, logs, and evidence.
- Handle deviations: specify unique ID, action owner, correction, planned retest, and verified outcome.
- Follow up on commissioning: document test operation, operating instructions, staff briefings, handed-over documents, and outstanding points.
What applies to testing and inspection in construction projects?
According to Boverket's guidance for the new building regulations, inspections must be performed professionally, and results must be documented in areas where the regulations impose such requirements. For fire safety, inspections are covered in, among others, BFS 2024:7, Chapter 1, Sections 15–19, with later amendments. For a finished building, verification can involve testing, measurement, or inspection.
The scope is always determined by the actual construction project, projected functional requirements, contract documents, and applicable rules. The Swedish Public Procurement Agency (Upphandlingsmyndigheten) has specific criteria for certain facilities where planned and documented coordinated functional testing is required as a contractual condition; this does not mean that this criterion text applies to all construction projects.
The template contains no pre-filled set-point values, alarm sequences, safety programs, or signatures. It does not replace certification-requiring inspections, mandatory ventilation inspections (OVK), elevator/equipment inspections, contract inspections, authority decisions, final approval, or individual technical assessments. Testing of safety-critical functions requires project-adapted methods and competent responsible parties.
Who benefits from this product?
Clients, contractors, technical coordinators, inspection/audit organizations, project managers, and technical property managers who want to structure how multiple installation systems are tested together and how documentation is handed over.

Frequently asked questions
What does coordinated functional testing mean?
It is a test where you check how several technical functions or systems work together according to the project's actual established requirements and operating cases.
Is this a finished protocol that can be approved without testing?
No. These are blank original templates. Criteria, measurement, results, safety assessment, and approval must be developed and verified in the current project.
Are test plans and retesting included?
Yes. Separate Word and PDF templates are included for test plans, test protocols, interfaces, deviations/retesting, and handover checks, with a consolidated Excel registry.
Does the template replace OVK or final approval?
No. OVK, special authority inspections, and PBL final approval have their own requirements and must be handled separately.
Are there English master templates?
No. The five master templates are in Swedish. A separate English User Guide is included as an aid for international project teams.
Is the Excel full of example tests?
No. The workbook contains no fictitious test results or decisions. The dashboard only counts registered IDs and displays 0 in empty registries.
