Change of address, moving company, and RUT – important Swedish conditions
Change of address (Flyttanmälan): The Swedish Tax Agency states that you should report your move in advance or no later than one week after moving in for the new registered address to normally apply from the date of move-in. Notification to the Swedish Tax Agency is free of charge. Mail forwarding is a separate service that does not replace the formal change of address notification.
Moving company: The Swedish Consumer Agency recommends comparable quotes and a written contract. Check whether the terms follow Bohag 2010, and that the necessary professional traffic license is in place. Bohag 2010 is an industry agreement, not a law that is automatically part of every contract.
RUT for moving: according to the Swedish Tax Agency's 2026 guidance, the tax reduction is generally a maximum of 50 percent of the approved labor cost including VAT, with individual conditions and caps. Moving vehicles, fuel, boxes, and storage rent do not in themselves entitle you to RUT. For 2027, rules must be checked based on then-current legislation and actual payment.
