About this template
Annual report for non-profit organizations K2 – template in Word, PDF and Excel
Prepare the annual report for a non-profit organization eligible to use K2. The document package provides the board and the treasurer with structured templates for the administration report, income statement and balance sheet, notes, year-end reconciliation, supporting documents for grants, and documentation of board decisions. A separate Excel tool with nine tabs and mathematical reconciliation checks is included.
Digital delivery with 15 files: 7 editable Word documents, 7 corresponding searchable PDF files, and 1 Excel workbook. Five main Swedish templates, a Swedish user guide, and an English User Guide. The English guide is not a translation of the main templates.
Not all non-profit organizations are required to prepare an annual report. A simplified annual accounts statement under K1 and a standard annual accounts statement are different documents. Larger non-profit organizations should normally apply K3. New and amended K2 regulations apply to, among other things, financial years beginning after December 31, 2025; specific application limitations must be checked. The template package is a working draft and does not replace bookkeeping, the organization's own legal assessment, or actual signatures.

Excel with nine tabs and control functions
Summary automatically displays compiled revenues, expenses, profit/loss, assets, and balance difference. Income and Balance have columns for the current and previous year. Equity calculates closing values based on entered opening balances and changes. Grants contains fields for conditions and assessment. Notes gathers disclosure documentation. Checks provides follow-up status, and Decisions distinguishes proposals from actual decision status. Read me contains instructions and sources. Empty amount fields result in zero values; no fictitious figures are included.
A reconciliation difference of zero only shows mathematical balance. Excel does not automatically classify grants, review bookkeeping material, or approve board decisions.
How to use the annual report templates
- Assess whether the organization is actually required to prepare an annual report and is eligible to choose K2.
- Check the correct version of BFNAR 2016:10 for the financial year.
- Reconcile the general ledger, cash, bank, assets, liabilities, and grants.
- Enter verified amounts into Excel and prepare the income statement and balance sheet in the correct format.
- Finalize the administration report, notes, and disclosures in the main template.
- Document actual board decisions and have authorized persons sign the annual report.
Legal requirements and limitations
The Annual Accounts Act (1995:1554) requires, among other things, a balance sheet, income statement, notes, and an administration report. K2 according to BFNAR 2016:10 may be used by smaller organizations that meet the criteria. A document that does not meet the Annual Accounts Act and relevant K-regulations should not be described as a complete annual report. Check how membership fees, gifts, grants, and the organization's purpose are reported in your specific operations.

Frequently asked questions
Must all non-profit organizations prepare an annual report?
No. It depends on the organization's accounting obligation, size, and other circumstances. In some cases, an organization may prepare an annual report voluntarily. Do not select K2 before checking the conditions.
Are K1 and K2 the same thing?
No. K1 for non-profit organizations applies to simplified annual accounts statements under specific conditions. K2 for annual reports applies to a different form of reporting.
Does Excel automatically finalize my annual report?
No. Excel provides summaries and control calculations based on amounts you enter yourself. Complete structures, classifications, notes, reconciliations, and actual signatures must be reviewed separately.
Are all documents translated into English?
No, five work templates are in Swedish. An English user guide is included to assist English-speaking administrators.
