Overview · Parties & Horse · Riding sessions · Care · Costs · Payments · Equipment · Incidents · Read me
The overview shows 12 key performance indicators, including the number of riding sessions, reported riding time, confirmed sessions, planning deviations, registered care, costs, payments, and open incidents. Use dropdown menus for status and manual confirmation. For riding sessions, the difference between planned and completed hours is calculated. For payments, the remaining registered amount is shown separately from the actual payment.
Please note: The formulas do not verify that a session was actually completed, that a cost is legally valid, that an accident has been investigated, or that the horse is healthy. Empty registers lack actual data and therefore show zero in the overview.
How to use the co-rider agreement – 10 steps
- Identify the parties and the horse. State the horse’s name and proper identification, the owner, and the co-rider.
- Determine the appropriate agreement form. A private co-riding arrangement differs from, for example, a horse lease, stabling, horse purchase, or work for compensation.
- Establish riding rights and schedule. Decide on the number of days, times, trial periods, and any restrictions.
- Check the horse’s needs. Document health status, known limitations, and terms for rest, feed, and supervision.
- Describe permitted activities. Explicitly state conditions for trail riding, jumping, lessons, competitions, and transport.
- Check safety and insurance. Verify actual coverage in the correct insurance policy before riding begins.
- Clarify payment. Specify any fees, due dates, cancelled sessions, and requirements for approving additional costs.
- Plan the care. Use the riding and care schedule with instructions for the day.
- Sign. Both parties agree to the main contract. For minors, check required guardians/authority.
- Follow up and terminate. Register actual activities performed, deviations, payments, and return of equipment.
Legal and practical limitations
Animal welfare and the horse’s well-being
The Animal Welfare Act (2018:1192), particularly chapters two and four, sets requirements for supervision, proper handling, and necessary care. A private agreement cannot override these requirements. Suspected injury, illness, or overexertion should lead to appropriate measures and potential veterinary contact – not to the horse being ridden just because a schedule says so.
Insurance, personal injuries, and liability
Horse insurance typically covers veterinary care and potentially life insurance. The co-rider’s personal insurance and any liability protection are separate matters. Damage to borrowed equipment, the horse itself, and third-party property may be subject to exclusions. No insurance guarantees are included in this template. Any liability for damages is assessed based on actual circumstances and applicable law.
Minors, agreement forms, and business activity
If the co-rider is under 18, authorized representatives must be involved, and appropriate supervision and safety ensured. In the case of systematic rental or services for payment, other contractual, business, and consumer rights issues may apply. The template is primarily designed for private co-riding.

Frequently asked questions about co-rider agreements
Must a co-rider agreement be in writing?
There is generally no specific formal requirement for this type of private co-riding agreement, but a written document makes it easier to demonstrate what the parties have agreed upon regarding times, costs, safety, and liability.
What should a co-rider agreement contain?
Identify the parties and the horse, the scope of the agreement, permitted activities, care, fees, insurance, injuries, termination, and how you handle cancelled sessions and changes.
What does it cost to have a co-rider?
There is no general fee. The parties can agree on an amount or a fee-free arrangement. Clearly document what is included and how paused riding or additional costs are handled.
Can the co-rider ride at their own risk?
Riding involves risks, but such a phrase does not create unlimited release of liability for any party. Check insurance, safety routines, and applicable law. The template does not contain any automatic full waiver of liability.
Is a riding and care schedule included in Excel?
Yes. Both a separate Word/PDF annex and an Excel register for planned/completed riding sessions, care, payments, costs, equipment, and incidents.
Can I use this template for a horse leaser (fodervärd)?
Not without substantial customization. A leasing arrangement often implies a different and more extensive responsibility for possession, feed, costs, and care.
Can I get the agreement in English?
An English User Guide is included. The five Swedish main templates have not been translated into English.
Is the package approved by a lawyer or insurance company?
No external legal review, authority certification, or insurance company approval is claimed. The package is based on an editorial review of sources and needs to be adapted to the actual agreement and current insurance terms.
