About this template

Internship Agreement & LIA/APL 2026/2027 – agreement, supervision plan, attendance and Excel register

Plan and document an internship period with templates for internship agreements, LIA (learning in work), APL (workplace-based learning), supervision, safety induction, attendance logs, and evaluation. The package helps training providers, workplaces, supervisors, and interns clarify who does what and how actual activities are followed up.

15 digital files: 7 Word (DOCX), 7 corresponding searchable PDF, and 1 Excel workbook (XLSX) with nine tabs. Five main Swedish templates, one Swedish user guide, and a specific English User Guide. No physical delivery or subscription.

Important before using the templates: LIA, APL, and other internships do not have identical legal conditions. LIA is included as a course in higher vocational education; APL belongs to relevant school education. The provider's mandatory agreement and educational plan must be followed. Work environment responsibilities, insurance, minors, actual employment, and any compensation require individual assessment. The template is not a general employment contract or an official authority certificate.

The Word documents feature fillable fields, practical check questions, and two distinct framed information boxes. The PDF versions correspond to the Word files and can be used as references and for printing. The forms are not pre-filled with fictional course results, attendance, or safety approvals.

03. The Excel tool – nine practical tabs

Overview · Internship periods · Goals & modules · Attendance · Risk & intro · Supervision · Deviations · Decisions & evaluation · Read me.

The dashboard calculates registered internship periods, ongoing periods, goals, completed modules, reported hours, manually confirmed attendance entries, open risk checks, open deviations, and registered or verified decisions. The attendance sheet also includes a formula for planned time minus reported time and absence. There are dropdown lists for relevant status and confirmation fields.

Manual control required: Reported attendance is not automatically verified. A completed work task is not an approved educational goal. Excel does not issue grades or safety approvals. An empty register shows 0 – not fabricated achievements.

How to use the internship agreement and LIA/APL templates

  1. Choose the right type of internship. Check if the placement applies to LIA within higher vocational education, APL within upper secondary school/adult education, or another type of internship.
  2. Check the provider's requirements. Request the current educational plan, any mandatory agreement, course goals, and information about the supervisor.
  3. Verify insurance and actual status. Document responsible parties, compensation if applicable, and any employment law issues without assuming that the term "internship" determines the case.
  4. Perform a risk assessment before starting. Investigate tasks, equipment, safety, and restrictions for minors where applicable.
  5. Conduct an induction. Document the supervisor, alarm procedures, safety information, and actual protective measures.
  6. Plan learning goals. Link practical work tasks to the education's established goals.
  7. Follow up on attendance and development. Specify actual times and distinguish reporting from confirmation.
  8. Document deviations. Register the person responsible, action, date, and separate verification of any termination.
  9. Submit evaluation documentation. The supervisor can contribute with actual observations, but the authorized provider decides on course results where applicable.
  10. Conclude the internship. Check authorizations, belongings, archiving, personal data, and any factual internship certificate.

LIA, APL, work environment, and personal data

LIA: The Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education describes LIA as an educational course with workplace-based elements and supervision. The training provider is responsible for the course's assessment system.

APL: The Swedish National Agency for Education describes APL as a way to carry out parts of the education in a workplace. The school and the workplace need to cooperate; every student must have relevant supervision.

Work environment and youth: Work environment rules can also apply to individuals undergoing education in the workplace. For minors, there are specific protection regulations. The included risk template supplements but does not replace prescribed risk assessments.

GDPR: Data minimization applies when handling the intern's personal data. Limit authorizations, document storage times, and avoid sensitive data in open attendance and supervision registers.

For general work environment organization, SAM – Systematic Work Environment Management can be used as broader support. Also, see employee handbook and HR policy for workplace routines and incident report and workplace accident in the event of an incident. These are complementary products and are not included in this ZIP.

Frequently asked questions about internship agreements, LIA, and APL

Is a special internship agreement needed for LIA?

Check the training provider's own requirements first. This general package can supplement a LIA agreement but should not replace mandatory course documentation and routines.

Is an internship the same as employment?

No, not automatically. The actual situation and any compensation terms must be assessed independently. A document title cannot alone determine legal status.

Are risk assessments and attendance logs included?

Yes. A work environment and induction template as well as a separate attendance log are included in both Word and PDF, and Excel contains registers for risk checks, attendance, supervision, and follow-up.

Can Excel approve or grade an intern?

No. The workbook keeps track of registered information and manually marked confirmations. It cannot independently make legal decisions or assess course goals.

Are English agreements included?

No. Five main templates are in Swedish. The included English User Guide explains usage for English-speaking participants and supervisors.

Are the templates mandatory or authority-approved?

No. They are voluntary support documents. Contact the school/provider and check for any mandatory educational contract and the organization's rules.
