About this template

Correct an incorrect credit report or payment record – with clear letters and traceable documentation. A template package for private individuals who need to request an investigation and potential correction of a concretely incorrect or misleading entry at credit reporting agencies or the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden). Document what has been registered, why it is incorrect, and what documentation supports the request.

Important legal distinction: A correctly registered payment record does not normally become incorrect just because you paid the debt after the fact. The templates provide no guarantee that information will be removed or that debts will cease to exist.

01. Package contents

7 editable Word files (DOCX) + 7 corresponding searchable PDFs + 1 Excel workbook (XLSX) = 15 files. Five Swedish working documents, one Swedish user guide, an English User Guide, and an administrative register in Excel with nine tabs.

Scope: Swedish law; intended for private individuals. The English guide explains the Swedish documents but is not an English correction template. The PDF files are print and read-only versions, not automatically fillable forms.

02. What the files contain

Two separate paths for correction: a letter to the credit reporting agency and an application to the Swedish Enforcement Authority if the authority's registered data is deemed incorrect or misleading. In addition, there is an information comparison, a list of evidence, follow-up letters, and two guides. Excel is used to keep track of companies, source cases, evidence, correspondence, and actual responses.

Excel register with nine tabs

Overview, Companies, Data, Source Cases, Evidence, Correspondence, Responses, Checkpoints, and Read me. The overview formulas count registered entries and specified statuses. Marking a case as corrected does not mean that the correction is legally established or implemented at all relevant companies. Excel does not send letters, retrieve information from authorities, or calculate legal deadlines. The workbook is delivered without real personal data.

How to request correction of an incorrect payment record

  1. Request a copy of your credit report or check the specific registered information, event date, and information source.
  2. Determine what is alleged to be incorrect or misleading based on the circumstances at the time the record was created.
  3. Contact each credit reporting agency where the information is held. Attach relevant documents and use a secure channel.
  4. If the underlying information in the Swedish Enforcement Authority's register is incorrect, you may also need to apply separately for correction with the authority.
  5. Keep proof of sending and written responses. In case of insufficient investigation or correction, a complaint to the IMY (Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection) may be appropriate.

Legal basis and important limitations

According to the Credit Reporting Act (1973:1173), Section 12, credit reporting businesses must investigate without delay when there is reason to suspect that information is incorrect or misleading. If such errors are confirmed, rules apply regarding correction, supplementation, or deletion, and in certain cases, notification to previous recipients of incorrect information.

IMY's guidance on payment records clarifies that paying in retrospect is normally not enough to have a correct record removed. The Swedish Enforcement Authority describes a separate correction application for incorrect or misleading information in the authority's register. Each case is decided individually. This template package does not cover appeals against court rulings or payment orders and does not replace individual legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove a payment record if I have paid?

Not automatically. A later payment does not normally make a correct record incorrect. The assessment is based on, among other things, the circumstances at the time of registration.

Who should I send the correction request to?

Contact each credit reporting agency that holds the questioned information. If the error concerns information from the Swedish Enforcement Authority, an application there may also be necessary.

Can the IMY directly delete my payment record?

No. The IMY can review complaints regarding the handling but does not directly remove information from credit reporting agencies' registers at the customer's request.

Are all seven Word documents in Swedish?

Six of the Word files are in Swedish – five work templates and one Swedish guide. The seventh is an English User Guide. The legal letter templates are in Swedish.

Are the seven PDF versions fillable?

They are searchable read-only and print versions. To edit the text, use the corresponding DOCX file.

Can Excel determine if a payment record is incorrect?

No. Excel compiles your data and tracks activities; it does not automatically assess legal conditions or the content of registers.
