Document quality: each Word and PDF document has two separately framed information boxes that clarify usage and what needs to be checked. The boxes are for guidance and should be removed from external letters before sending.
Excel for subscriptions – nine tabs
The Excel workbook contains Overview, Contracts, Cancellations, Renewal, Contact log, Invoices, Proof, Actions, and Read me. Register a unique contract ID per service and reuse the ID in other tabs. Status lists and an overview help you see if a message has been sent, if the end date is confirmed, and if invoices need to be followed up.
A calculation column in the invoice register shows the difference between the invoiced and paid amount when both amounts have been entered, although never as proof of a legally established debt. Excel does not determine valid notice periods, the applicability of the law, or if a fee may be charged. The empty workbook is delivered without fictitious cases, with zero in the overview summaries.
How to cancel a subscription or agreement
- Retrieve the contract and check the company, service, customer number, and terms at the time of signing.
- Check the time periods: commitment period and notice period are different concepts.
- Determine the contract category – for example, telecom, digital subscription, or other recurring service – and check any special rules.
- Choose the right Word template and fill in the date, customer number, company, and the specific service to be cancelled.
- Send in writing, preferably by email, and save a dated copy as proof.
- Request confirmation that the company has received the cancellation and which end date they consider applicable.
- Check for potential renewal and whether the information requirements according to law (2014:1449) are applicable.
- Follow up without changing the cancellation date if the company does not respond.
- Review the final invoice and object in writing to specifically stated incorrect claims, but do not ignore invoices or payment orders.
- Archive the documents and mark completed actions in Excel.
What is the legal status for cancelling agreements?
Commitment period and notice period
Notifying a cancellation during a commitment period does not mean that the agreement can always be terminated without cost. In many cases, the payment obligation remains according to the signed contract. For agreements regarding electronic communication services, specific consumer rules apply, including those for commitment and notice periods. These special rules must not be uncritically applied to gym memberships, magazine subscriptions, alarm services, or other agreements.
Automatic renewal and reminder
Act (2014:1449) on consumer protection in the event of automatic contract renewal applies to certain fixed-term agreements between companies and consumers. When the law is applicable, the company must remind the consumer in writing about the renewal condition no later than one month before the last cancellation date. If the prescribed reminder is missing, a special right of cancellation may exist. There are express exceptions, and the original contract time may need to expire. Always check the conditions in your specific case.
Written cancellation and right of withdrawal
The Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket) explains that it should normally be possible to cancel an agreement in a manner that suits the consumer and that writing is appropriate for evidence. A company confirmation is not necessarily required for a valid cancellation. Right of withdrawal is something different from cancellation; for certain distance contracts, a 14-day right of withdrawal may apply, with specific terms and exceptions.
These are general document templates, not government approval, automatic contract interpretation, or a guarantee of termination without payment. Frequently asked questions
How do I write a subscription cancellation?
State your name, the supplier, customer/contract number, exactly which service is being cancelled, and the date you notify the company. Please request written confirmation and save a copy.
Can I cancel during the commitment period?
Yes, you can normally notify that the agreement should end, but that does not automatically mean that the payment obligation during the remaining commitment period disappears.
Do I have to call to cancel the subscription?
The Swedish Consumer Agency states that companies generally may not restrict cancellation to a single contact method. Written cancellation often provides better evidence.
What happens if the company does not confirm?
The cancellation does not always need to be confirmed to be valid. Save proof and use the reminder template that refers to the original message.
What do I do if the subscription has been automatically renewed?
Check the renewal clause, when the agreement was entered into, whether Act (2014:1449) applies, and if a written reminder was provided in due time. Exceptions exist.
Is a template for mobile plans and broadband included?
Yes. A separate Swedish template for mobile, TV, and broadband is included. You need to provide your contract details and assess the commitment and notice periods yourself.
Do I get the main templates in English?
No. Five main letters and the Swedish user guide are in Swedish. An English User Guide is included, but not separate English cancellation letters.
Is Excel an automatic legal calculation tool?
No. It organizes contracts, dates, proof, contact, and amounts but does not determine the agreement's end date, commitment, or right to a refund.
