About this template

Request a reconsideration of an insurance decision with a clear and objective complaint letter. This template package helps private individuals who have already received a written decision from an insurance company to document objections, attach supporting documentation, and follow up on subsequent responses. It is suitable for cases such as rejections, reductions in compensation, and disagreements regarding valuation within Swedish consumer insurance.

15 files: 7 editable Word files, 7 corresponding searchable and printable PDF files, and 1 Excel workbook with nine tabs. Five Swedish work documents, one Swedish user guide, and one English User Guide.

Important limitation: Requesting a reconsideration does not mean that the insurance company will approve the claim. Complaining cannot be assumed to stop legal deadlines. The documents do not replace legal assistance in cases of statute of limitations, court proceedings, or complex medical assessments.

01. Package contents

7 Word (DOCX) + 7 PDF + 1 Excel (XLSX) = 15 customer files. Five main documents, two guides, and one register workbook. Seven text documents are delivered in two formats, not fourteen independent legal templates.

Language: Swedish templates and guides with an English User Guide. PDF: searchable print version – not an automatically fillable PDF form. Version: 1.0, October 21, 2026.

02. What the files contain

Reconsideration letter for the requested change; decision analysis for the company's reasoning and insurance terms; evidence list for attachments; supplementary letter and review of appeal paths. Swedish and English instructions for use, as well as an Excel register for cases, decisions, objections, evidence, outgoing correspondence, and responses.

What does the Excel workbook do?

The tabs are Overview, Cases, Decisions, Objections, Evidence, Outgoing, Responses, Checkpoints, and Read me. The formulas count registered cases, decisions, objections, evidence, and responses, and sum up the amounts you have registered. Requested amount, decided amount, and actually paid amount are kept separate. If the same claim recurs in several decisions, total sums should not be interpreted as a unique net claim. Excel does not determine if the damage is covered, does not calculate legal deadlines, and does not send letters automatically.

When is this product suitable?

For a private individual with an identified written insurance decision who needs a structured basis to request a renewed review by the insurance company. It does not replace an initial claim report and is not specifically designed for business insurance, international disputes, traffic damage against third parties, or specialist assessment of medical issues.

How to use the templates

  1. Locate the decision, insurance number, the correct version of the policy terms, and the date of the initial complaint. Check the company's actual reconsideration procedure and deadlines.
  2. Use the decision analysis to formulate exactly which part of the decision is incorrect and why.
  3. Number the relevant attachments and create the evidence list without unnecessary personal data.
  4. Fill in the reconsideration letter and send it to the correct recipient. Save a copy and proof of dispatch and receipt.
  5. Send a supplementary letter in case of new relevant facts. Document the response and assess potential further appeal paths separately.

Legal conditions and deadlines

The Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket) recommends that you primarily turn to the insurance company if you believe a decision is incorrect and that you substantiate your claim with relevant documentation. The Swedish Consumers' Insurance Bureau (Konsumenternas Försäkringsbyrå) states that internal reconsideration is normally requested within six months after the decision, but that the companies' actual procedures may vary; this is not a universally applicable statutory period for bringing an action.

For disputes that can be tried by the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN), specific terms apply regarding the type of dispute, value limit, and deadlines, including the one-year rule with special exceptions. Not all insurance disputes can be tried by ARN. The Insurance Contracts Act (2005:104), Chapter 7, Section 4, contains separate rules regarding prescription and the period for bringing an action. Filing a complaint or reporting to a board does not automatically preserve the right to bring a lawsuit.

Questions and answers

How do I request a reconsideration of an insurance decision?

Send an objective written request to the insurance company's current complaint recipient. State the case number, which part of the decision you are objecting to, what you want to change, and what evidence supports the objection.

Does the insurance company have to change the decision?

No. A request for reconsideration does not mean the company must grant the requested amount; the outcome depends on the insurance policy and the actual circumstances.

Is there a six-month deadline?

The companies' internal reconsideration procedures often imply approximately six months after the caseworker's decision, but please check your specific company. That time is not identical to specific deadlines according to the Insurance Contracts Act or ARN's own rules.

Can I turn to ARN?

In some consumer insurance disputes, yes, after the company has had the opportunity to take a position. ARN has specific value limits, deadlines, and exceptions and does not try all personal or insurance cases.

Are the PDF files fillable?

No, the PDF files are searchable print versions. Edit the DOCX file first.

Does the package contain English complaint letters?

No. The main templates are in Swedish; the English User Guide explains the Swedish usage.
