English-language version governed by Swedish law. The English documents are the main working set. The Swedish documents help interpretation and use with Swedish counterparties or advisers; the parties should agree which signed wording prevails in the event of discrepancies.
What the files contain – Vad filerna innehåller
- Principal agreement: sponsor and recipient, signing authority, commercial purpose, sponsorship cash or goods, defined counter-performance, delivery review, licence, advertising identification, intellectual property, confidentiality, cancellation, liability, breach and Swedish governing law.
- Deliverables schedule: every actual promised advertisement or benefit, location/channel, date, scope, responsible party, supportable market valuation and evidence of fulfilment. Broad promises of “good visibility” are not a substitute for specifics.
- Contribution schedule: separate cash amounts, goods, professional services, barter arrangements, payment dates, invoice requirements, account details and separately determined VAT.
- Brand licence: logos, trademarks, pictures and other approved creative material, permitted media and duration, approvals, third-party rights and expiry/takedown provisions.
- Advertising compliance: practical checks for recognisable sponsored content, advertiser identification, potentially misleading claims, influencer marketing, child-related photographs, regulated products and platform requirements.
- Evidence and acceptance: cross-references to deliverable IDs, screenshots, actual post URLs, acceptance dates, corrections, missed placements and proportionate adjustments. Operational acceptance does not determine tax deductibility.
- English user guide: an annotated step-by-step preparation workflow, Swedish terminology, risk checks, accounting and tax caveats, relevant legislation and authority references. Includes a distinct Swedish reference guide.
- Excel workbook: eight English-language sheets – Overview, Deliverables, Payments, InKind, Evidence, Checks, Dashboard and Sources. Tracks amounts payable and paid, documented benefits, contribution valuation, delivery status, supporting evidence and technical inconsistencies. The workbook does not decide whether a sponsorship contribution is deductible, determine market value, or establish lawful VAT treatment.
What is a sponsorship agreement under Swedish law?
A sponsorship agreement records what a sponsor contributes in money, products or services and what the sponsored party provides in return: for example advertising space, event exposure, branded communications or access to a facility. It is particularly useful for Swedish companies working with English-speaking sponsors or event partners.
The Swedish-first sponsoravtal template is intended for customers who prefer to negotiate and edit primarily in Swedish; this edition has an English primary agreement, English guide and English workbook.
Tax deductions are not automatic
The word “sponsorship” alone never guarantees a tax deduction. The Swedish Tax Agency examines the true benefit, connection to the business, actual use and fair-market value of each relevant consideration. A contribution in excess of the value of qualifying benefits may be treated wholly or partly as a gift with no deduction; different benefits may also fall under distinct expense restrictions, such as representation. A written deliverables matrix and proof of actual performance are therefore helpful, but not conclusive for tax purposes. Read our guide to sponsorship consideration, exposure and Swedish tax rules. The Swedish Tax Agency's sponsorship guidance provides authoritative detail.
Advertising identification and intellectual property
Section 9 of the Swedish Marketing Practices Act (2008:486) requires marketing to be recognisable as such and to identify the responsible advertiser. Section 10 addresses misleading marketing claims. Sponsored social-media content must be appropriately disclosed. The agreement does not authorise hidden advertisements or override restrictions on alcohol, nicotine, gambling, medicines or marketing to children. Logos, music, photographs and participants' images may require independent permission and data protection checks.
In-kind sponsorship, VAT and non-profit organisations
Goods and services supplied instead of cash can give rise to reciprocal transactions and tax implications for both parties. A Swedish non-profit may have a different VAT and income tax position depending on its actual activity, and an unconditional donation is not the same as a taxable advertising service. A 25% rate used in Excel is deliberately labelled as a fictitious calculation assumption, not a statement that 25% legally applies to your transaction.
Working example: measurable deliverables
Instead of merely promising “visibility at the event”, specify: the logo on a named event page from [date] to [date], approved size and placement, a clearly labelled sponsored post on a named social channel, proof of publication and a written procedure if the event is cancelled. Obtain independent evidence of comparable advertising rates. Never invent audience statistics.
How to complete the English template
- Verify both legal parties, organisation numbers and signing authority, particularly for an association or company.
- Identify all cash, products and services supplied by the sponsor. Specify payment and evidence of value.
- List each promised counter-performance in Schedule 1, with actual date, format, channel, location, duration and market-rate evidence.
- Assess Swedish advertising law, necessary approvals, platform requirements and rights to photographs, logos and other content.
- Choose the relevant cancellation, breach, rectification, refund and dispute-resolution terms; delete unused options and placeholders.
- Complete the English Excel tracker, replacing all sample figures and reviewing calculations and supporting evidence.
- Check the Swedish reference wording, state which executed language version governs and obtain qualified advice on tax, VAT or complex rights.
- Have authorised representatives sign all necessary schedules, then retain original agreements, invoices, valuation records and proof of publication.

A sponsorship contract differs from a wider business collaboration agreement. If commercial details or unreleased creative assets must remain confidential, a separate non-disclosure agreement (NDA) may also be useful. Our Swedish sponsorship guide examines valuation, actual performance, advertising and deductibility.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sign a sponsorship agreement in English in Sweden?
English-language agreements can be used, subject to the applicable Swedish legal requirements and factual circumstances. The language chosen does not replace Swedish substantive law. Record which version prevails.
Does the package include editable Word and Excel files?
Yes. The new 2027 ZIP edition includes fourteen editable Word files, their corresponding PDFs and a separate functional Excel workbook with eight sheets. The ZIP must first be attached manually to Digital Products.
Does a signature mean every clause is automatically enforceable?
No. Authority, mandatory law, relevant permissions, fairness and the actual circumstances still matter. Sections 1 and 36 of the Swedish Contracts Act may be relevant.
Does the spreadsheet establish a tax deduction?
No. It is an arithmetic and recordkeeping tool. Tax treatment, market value and any non-deductible gift element require independent analysis.
Can a Swedish sports club or non-profit use this agreement?
Potentially, provided the specific sponsorship arrangements, authority to contract, tax status, governing regulations and rules about advertising are checked.
Is this a template for international law?
No. It is expressly governed by Swedish law. For multi-jurisdictional campaigns, additional local-law review is needed.
